4 Smart Ways to Help You Save on Heating Costs This Winter

Keeping your home comfortable this winter can cost you a lot. Fortunately, there are numerous ways to save on heating without spending a fortune on upgrades. Stone Heating and Air, one of the top local HVAC maintenance companies, shares four of them here.

Address Leaks

Whether your home is new or old, leaks are something you’ll have to deal with at some point, especially as outdoor temperatures drop. Drafty windows, doors and attics can compromise your indoor comfort and cause your energy bills to spike. Keep the heat inside by sealing any leaks, replacing worn-out weatherstripping on your windows and doors and sealing openings in your attic with caulk.

Turn Down the Thermostat

You don’t have to turn off the heat to save energy—just turn down the thermostat a few degrees. Start by setting it at 68°F. After about a week, try lowering your normal thermostat setting to 65°F for even more savings. When no one is home or at night when you’re sleeping, you can lower it even more..

Inspect Your Heating System

Make sure your heating unit is in peak condition for handling a cold winter with timely home heating repair and regular maintenance by certified HVAC technicians. If you have a furnace, make sure it’s cleaned periodically and cleared of soot and other byproducts that can cause inefficiencies and breakdowns.

Turn on the Fans

By turning on an electric fan, your conditioned air will be able to better circulate throughout your room, helping you achieve the desired temperature faster. If you have a ceiling fan, make sure to set it so the blades push warm air downward.

For your heating and cooling needs, turn to Stone Heating and Air. Our residential HVAC services include repairs and replacements, maintenance agreements and duct cleaning. You can rely on us to do the job right the first time.
