Can an Air Purifier Help Relieve Your Allergy Symptoms?

Air purifiers are often recommended to improve indoor air quality. Because of this, one of the most salient benefits of air purifiers is their ability to help relieve indoor environmental allergies caused by dust, molds, pet allergens, etc.

In this post, home heating repair expert Stone Heating and Air discusses the top considerations for picking the right air purifier for your home.

Placement

Ensure that your air purifier is placed in the correct room. Common sense might tell you that your living area is the ideal place for your air purifier, but remember that your bedroom is where you spend one-third of every day. That said, if you want to maximize the benefits of your air purifier, you should place it in the room where you spend most of your time.

Size

HVAC maintenance companies also advise you to get the right size of air purifier. Your air purifier can only clean indoor air if the air is able to reach the machine, and it must be capable of constantly moving the air inside a room. Your air purifier’s motor and fan are responsible for this, so it’s important to ensure that they have the capacity to effectively move air in the room.

When looking for an air purifier, make sure that you know the amount of air that circulates in the room. Volume can be calculated by multiplying the length and width of the room by the ceiling height. Then, check the technical specifications of the air purifier to find out how much air the motor can move. This is usually expressed in CFM.

Type of Air Purifier

HEPA filtration is one of the features that you should look for in an air purifier. It’s the standard for stopping the spread of airborne particles. Due to its fine filtration, it can capture particles that are 0.3 microns or larger, which means it can effectively remove common indoor allergens.

Air purifiers that produce ozone or those that come with UV light aren’t recommended for helping relieve allergies. Air purifiers that create ozone can make your respiratory problems worse, while air purifiers with UV light are often used for medical sanitizing.
